Anaesthesia

From induction to recovery specialist anesthesia at REH maximising your horse’s safety

The only private equine hospital in the UK to have a dedicated onsite Specialist in Equine Anaesthesia

Leaving a horse to have a procedure under general anaesthesia can be a daunting and worrying experience for owners. At Rainbow Equine Hospital we recognise the increasing complexity of anaesthesia and the need for specialist knowledge to minimise the risks of anesthesia in the horse. We are the only equine hospital in the North to have a specialist in Veterinary Anaesthesia within the hospital team. With an increasingly busy surgical caseload and the advancing complexity of modern surgical techniques, the ability to provide comprehensive monitoring and tailored anaesthetic and analgesic techniques is paramount during surgery and throughout the post-operative period.

Anaesthesia Specialist

The provision of general anaesthesia at Rainbow Equine Hospital is overseen by Kate Loomes BVSc MSc CertAVP(EP) CertAVP(VA) CertAVP(EM) Dip ECVAA MRCVS who is a RCVS Recognised and European Specialist in Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia (ECVAA).

With over 15 years of specialist anaesthesia experience, Kate provides the skill and expertise and is involved in ensuring anaesthesia is done to its highest standard according to the needs of the individual patient. She presents and publishes regularly on a national and international level and trains residents in anaesthesia from all over Europe. Combining the latest technology to monitor blood pressure, blood gas concentrations, emissions of CO2, and ensuring oxygenation is facilitated by mechanical ventilation with the skills and knowledge of an anesthesia specialist maximises owner confidence that their horse is truly safe in our hands.
